BUTLEY PRIORY

About Butley Priory

Butley Priory is a private luxury wedding venue in Suffolk owned by the Greenwell family since 1932.

An historic, unique building, its Great Hall is a deeply romantic space for creating momentous occasions. It is surrounded by an 150-acre reserve, now known as Butley Abbey Wilds. There are three beautifully refurbished properties within a few minutes walk of the venue, sleeping 47 wedding guests in luxury and comfort.

Our weddings are managed by a dedicated team of four, Donna, Daniela, Libby and Honor, with housekeeping and maintenance looked after by husband and wife duo, Kimmy and Nigel.

Every year we host a limited number of weekend weddings — and each wedding is curated with thoughtfulness and care, paying close attention to our couples needs and desires, ensuring they are stress-free, fun and stylish.

Our vision for Butley Abbey Wilds

At Butley Priory, we are embarking on a journey to create Butley Abbey Wilds, a 150-acre sanctuary dedicated to the restoration and enhancement of local biodiversity around the Priory Gatehouse. Our goal is to not only protect but also increase both the quality and quantity of local wildlife over the next thirty years, contributing to a thriving, balanced ecosystem.

Inspired by the rewilding movement, we are committed to blending both modern and time-tested conservation techniques to restore the land, foster wildlife habitats, and ensure the long-term sustainability of the natural environment. Each year, we will monitor our progress to ensure we are achieving significant ecological benefits, and would love to talk to anyone interested in this work.

Sustainability and Carbon Neutrality Commitment

We are also committed to becoming a carbon-neutral organization and implementing sustainable practices across all aspects of our operations. In the short term, we will review all our supplier relationships, minimise waste, and promote recycling among staff and guests. Additionally, we are dedicated to reducing energy consumption and transitioning to sustainable energy providers. In the future, we plan to meet all of our energy needs through renewable sources, including on-site solar power and ground and air source heat pumps, to ensure a greener, more sustainable future.
