I’m delighted to announce that the Butley Priory Sessions will resume on SUNDAY 07 April for the last of our Spring concerts. Suitably we finish by celebrating what is probably the central instrument in modern classical music, the piano, for the wonderful celebration that is Pianoday. This year, I shall be playing with Matthew Bickerton as the piano and soundscape ensemble Pianofield and we shall also have the great pleasure of two incredible guest artists, Talvin Singh and composer Alexandra Hamilton Ayers.
World renowned Mercury Prize winning Talvin Singh will doubtless need no introduction, we are so honoured to have him with us, and excited to hear him on the piano; Alexandra is a very talented young composer recently signed to Manners McDade, who is shortly be bringing out her absolutely beautiful first EP.
This will be a free concert, we would encourage donations of £10 or more on the door in support of Compassion in World Farming, who do such wonderful work all over the world to improve conditions for animals in factory farms.
In case you dont know . . .
Piano Day is annual worldwide event founded by a group of likeminded people quite simply to celebrate the piano!
“Why does the world need a Piano Day? For many reasons. But mostly, because it doesn’t hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers and most important, the listener.” – Nils Frahm
It is intended to be the most joyful of all holidays!
