Following the release of her hugely successful EP Illogical Dance via Erased tapes in March this year, we are honoured to welcome the incredible Japanese vocal performer Hatis Noit to Butley Priory. Unmissable!
Hailing from a small town in Hokkaido in Japan her vocal range is astonishing. Self taught, inspired by everything she could find from Japanese classical music and operatic styles, Bulgarian and Gregorian chanting, to avant-gard and pop. At the age of 16, during a trek in Nepal to the Buddha’s birthplace she realised her calling, While staying at a women’s temple in Lumbini, one morning on a mountain walk Hatis heard someone singing. It turned out to be a female Buddist monk singing chants alone. The sound moved her intensely - she realised the power of the human voice, that can connect us to the very essence of our humanity.
