Be KIND Spring Retreat 2019

Join Jayna at Butley Priory for this year’s KIND Spring Awakening.  Enter into a full 5 day immersion of deep soul and spirit connection.

Prices from £495 for a shared Glamping, private rooms from £809

Spring is a time of clearing, rising and stepping into the light. The 5th of May is the start of a new moon, honouring the moon and the seasons brings a simple purity to life, a clarity of mind and an invitation for internal growth on our personal journeys.

This is the ultimate Spring clean. Use your May Bank holiday wisely in a retreat that serves new beginnings, restoration, clarity and fresh perspective.

During this 5 days immersion we will create ways to come into deeper contact with ourselves. Allow the layers of illusion to dissolve, our truth to be felt and hearts to be heard. We will work to open and strengthen our bodies.  Coming closer to our spiritual essence in a declaration of self care. Essentially, we create space to come back to the home of who we are.

PIANO DAY

I’m delighted to announce that the Butley Priory Sessions will resume on SUNDAY 07 April for the last of our Spring concerts. Suitably we finish by celebrating what is probably the central instrument in modern classical music, the piano, for the wonderful celebration that is Pianoday. This year, I shall be playing with Matthew Bickerton as the piano and soundscape ensemble Pianofield and we shall also have the great pleasure of two incredible guest artists, Talvin Singh and composer Alexandra Hamilton Ayers

World renowned Mercury Prize winning Talvin Singh will doubtless need no introduction, we are so honoured to have him with us, and excited to hear him on the piano; Alexandra is a very talented young composer recently signed to Manners McDade, who is shortly be bringing out her absolutely beautiful first EP.

This will be a free concert, we would encourage donations of £10 or more on the door in support of Compassion in World Farming, who do such wonderful work all over the world to improve conditions for animals in factory farms.

In case you dont know . . .
Piano Day is annual worldwide event founded by a group of likeminded people quite simply to celebrate the piano!

“Why does the world need a Piano Day? For many reasons. But mostly, because it doesn’t hurt to celebrate the piano and everything around it: performers, composers, piano builders, tuners, movers and most important, the listener.” – Nils Frahm

It is intended to be the most joyful of all holidays!

Masayoshi Fujita at Butley Priory with Kay Elizabeth of Black Orchids

Masayoshi Fujita, the Berlin-based Japanese vibraphone player, came to the attention of Erased Tapes founder Robert Raths in 2012. Not only because the vibraphone is an intriguing instrument, but also the way Masayoshi treats his instrument and draws ethereal and layered sounds, is what truly attracted him to Fujita’s work. Masa first learned how to play the drums, followed by extensive vibraphone training to craft and play his own, mostly jazz and electronic-influenced compositions.

Lubomyr Melnyk at Butley Priory

'Continuous music' pioneer and literal force of nature Lubomyr Melnyk releases his new album Fallen Trees on December 7, 2018. Known as ‘the prophet of the piano’ due to his lifelong devotion to his instrument, the release coincides with Melnyk's 70th birthday.

Melnyk composes, as he plays, at the piano, feeling out lines and individual rhythmic cells that bubble, undulate and gradually expand into vast, interlinked frameworks. Asked to describe what it’s like to live inside his music, he says “my whole body is transformed as I play, it honestly feels like that. My fingers feel like the winds of the world; it feels like you’re physically transcending dimensions.”

An evening with Lubomyr Melnyk

The fabulous Ukrainian pianist and composer Lubomyr Melnyk will be coming to Butley to play for us on THURSDAY JANUARY 18TH 2018, following his show at the Jazz Cafe in London. As many know, Lubomyr is the pioneer of Continuous Piano Music. Classically trained and greatly affected by the minimalist movement in the early 1970s, he has developed his own unique language for the piano, named after the principle of maintaining a continuous, unbroken stream of sound. He is also, it can safely be said, a true eccentric and great performer!

We saw him play at Latitude in the Summer, and again in September at the Barbican as part of the Erased Tapes Label's 10th anniversary. Both times we were mesmerised and enraptured! I'm sure you will be too. For us, the experience was akin to standing under a waterfall of beautiful sound.

Winter Warmer Retreat With KIND & SYC
Nov

to Nov 12

Winter Warmer Retreat With KIND & SYC

Jayna (KIND Yoga) and Gabrielle (Secret Yoga Club) invite you to a winter warmer retreat in 12th century Butley Priory of Suffolk.

Just before you dive into a sea of mulled wine, mince pies and tinsel, we welcome you to a weekend designed to cover you in love, reawaken your body, fill your soul with magic and within these sacred grounds return you to a place of integration and expansion.

Using the Chakra system as a framework for the retreat, we’ll scan the body to identify physical and energetic blockages, and explore how this ancient philosophy can guide you through a practical journey of self enquiry.  From our little toes to our heads, we’ll explore our inner poetry, re-orientating us out of the thinking mind, and dropping down into our own physicality, rooting deeply into our flesh and bones.

We believe, like life, our practise is multidimensional, both we and yoga are limitless. As well as Vinyasa and restorative yoga, we’ll be taking  the practise off the mat to work with all of our senses. Expect some winter woodland walks and explorations of the suffolk countryside. Nature will be there to guide us through our journey, as we nestle around log fires, drinking hot coco and roasting chestnuts.

Moving from the physical realm to the more subtle, we’ll explore the oceanic vastness of the breath, through a number of different breathing exercises.  We will observe how it can be manipulated to create different effects within the body-mind. The voice is also a potent tool for empowerment. Ever wondered why it feels so good to sing in the shower?  We’ll work with our voices, in a non-intimidating, releasing and tuning, so that we recharge and shine with our own sound.

This leads us to meditation as the final piece.  Allowing space to be quiet and dwell in stillness. This will help us reorientate back in our hearts and make decisions from a place of intuition.

With all the external information we take in from our busy lives, it’s tricky sometimes to know what we truly want. Now we can allow ourselves that crucial time and space to listen within.

If this all sounds a little bit far out for you, don’t worry. The retreat will be very real with lots of space for resting, reading and doing your thing. What’s most important to us is that we nurture and indulge you in loveliness so you leave feeling juicy, refreshed and inspired.

Our super power is packaging the magic up in a way that appeals to everyone, yogis and newbies alike.
